Lucinda Lewis

Women of Classical Music: Lucinda Lewis is a horn player and pedagogue who has worked with over 5,000 Brass Players with Embouchure Injury’s across the world. As a horn player, Lewis was named principal horn of the New Jersey Symphony in 1977. Lewis has also served as Principal of the Brooklyn Symphony, Chamber Opera Theatre in New York City, the Chautauqua Festival Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony, Israel Chamber Orchestra, and the Israel Philharmonic. As a soloist, Lewis has appeared with the Brooklyn Symphony,  Jerusalem Symphony, as well as the New Jersey Symphony. Her tenures with these orchestras allowed her to be a professor at the Rubin Academey in Jerusalem, Israel University, and Princeton University. She has since retired from her latest job as Principal of the New Jersey Symphony in 2017. Lewis serves as an Officer and Governing Board Member of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians, which she started serving in in 1990.Being a member of the Faculty of the Performing Arts Medical Association Annual Symposium, Lewis has written four books that focus on the rehabilitation of Embouchure Injuries in brass players and how to gain strength and retain a healthy embouchure. The books are entitled “Broken Embouchures,” “Embouchure Rehabilitations,” “Buzz Pipe Book,” and “The Healthy Embouchure Guide for Comeback and Amateur Players.” These books along with numerous articles, lectures, and private instructions, have helped thousands of brass players recover from injury’s especially from Embouchure Overuse Syndrome and maintain healthy Embouchures.
